Douglas County Superior Court Clerk

The Douglas County Superior Court Clerk is the administrative and financial officer of the Superior Court. The mission of the clerk's office is to efficiently maintain and protect the integrity and accuracy of the judicial records of Douglas County Superior Court while serving the public in a courteous, professional, and timely manner. The clerk performs legal, clerical, and accounting functions for adoption, civil, criminal, domestic, juvenile, mental illness, paternity, and probate proceedings.

By state statute, the clerk must be present in all court proceedings and write accurate minutes. The clerk administers financial records including bail, child support, judgments, offender financial obligations, and restitution. The clerk also issues court process including abstracts, attachments, bench warrants, executions on judgments, garnishments, and subpoenas. The clerk is the jury administrator and issues juror summons.

Filing Fees and Costs

The filing fee for a dissolution in Douglas County is approximately $280. This fee covers state surcharges for court operations and services. Douglas County Auditor's Office handles marriage licenses, with a current cost of $159 payable in cash or check. Washington state law requires a three-day waiting period after application. Certified copies of recorded documents at the Auditor's Office cost $3.00 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page. What Dissolution Of Marriage Records Are Available

Douglas County Superior Court stores complete case files for every dissolution filed in the county. The file includes the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage, the Summons, any Response from the other party, temporary orders, financial declarations, parenting plans, child support worksheets, property and debt division documents, a settlement agreement, and the Final Decree of Dissolution. Most documents in the dissolution case file are public records under RCW 42.56 and General Rule 31.

Some documents are not public. Financial declarations with personal account numbers and Social Security numbers are redacted. Records sealed by court order are not available. Certain records involving minor children may have restricted access.

Washington is a no-fault state. Under RCW 26.09.030, the only ground for dissolution is that the marriage is irretrievably broken. The mandatory 90-day waiting period from filing and service applies in Douglas County. No decree can be entered before this period expires. Property is divided as community property under RCW 26.09.080 in a just and equitable manner. Child custody is determined under RCW 26.09.187.
